The list is going to be the five albums that were released and that I listened to the most over the course of 2009. They might not be the greatest or most critically acclaimed albums but I couldn't get enough of them.
5.Deadmau5 – For Lack of a Better Name
I now know that Deadmau5's first album Random Album Title is a more cohesive package with each song flowing into the next, but last year I was all about For Lack of a Better Name. It is because it is packed with all of the greatest singles Deadmau5 has produced so far. I mean just look at how the album starts with FML, Moar Ghosts 'n' Stuff, Ghosts 'n' Stuff, then Hi Friend; just tracks that get me psyched! I still can't get enough of Moar Ghosts 'n' Stuff, I once listened to it 10 times on the drive from Lethbridge to Calgary (no joke). For Lack of a Better Name doesn't feel like a whole album to me because each song is strong enough to stand on its own.
fav track: Moar Ghosts n Stuff
4.Phoenix – Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

Its no wonder how Phoenix has become so successful so quickly, they are fun to listen too. Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is filled with songs that make me happy and it really has nothing to do with lyrics but I can't get enough of the instrumentals, well thats not entirely true because they do use a bunch of falsetto vocals which I like. Now you can hear a song from Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix on every second commercial break.
Fav track: Lasso
3.Grizzly Bear – Veckatimest
Grizzly Bear's Veckatimest is the only album on my list that isn't upbeat and filled with hooky songs. I guess the track Two Weeks lured me in and I remember listening to that song so many times until I could kinda sing along to the lyrics. I am trying hard to think of a way to sum up Veckatimest but its just a really good album that maintains a constant theme throughout its entirety. It's not an album that I would throw on at a party but it is epic, incredibly chill and one of my fav records I own.
Fav track: Cheerleader
2.The Dudes – Blood Guts Bruises Cuts
I got Blood Guts Bruises Cuts for free in a bundle with a Michael Bernard Fitzgerald CD and just tossed it in my glovebox and forgot about it. It took me one trip from Calgary to Lethbridge (finding a theme with my music listening yet?) to love this album. My iPod died and I had no Cd s I wanted to listen to so I pulled it out of my glovebox and couldn't believe that I had it so long without listening to it. Just a solid collection of good rock tunes from start to finish. The Dudes are a classic bar rock band and they sound the same live as they do on the disc. It took me a long time but I did finally find this album on vinyl and it is one I would put on at a party.
Fav track: Girl Police
1.Passion Pit – Manners
I am pretty sure that there isn't an album I have listened to more in the last 5 years than Manners. Song after song is filled with pop hooks covered with tons of synths and kicked in the sack in a helium factory vocals. The way I go through music is crazy, I constantly delete things on my iPod (no space!) to make room for new music and now to think that I still listen to Manners all the time, goes completely against my listening process. I think I now have most of the lyrics down pat and whenever I'm in the car I try to hit the same high notes as lead singer Michael Angelakos does. It took me forever to find this album on vinyl and I even had to order it from some sketch british site and pay in pounds but totally worth it. I thought about flying to two different cities to see Passion Pit live over the last year or so but Im glad I didn't cause I heard in the beginning of their touring they didn't have it all quite figured out and put together but now I hear they are a crazy group to see live. Can't wait till Sasquatch! To see them live.
Fav track: Folds in Your Hands
Close but not top five:
(In no particular order)
Metric – Fantasies
Calvin Harris – Ready for the Weekend
Chiddy Bang – The Swelly Express
LMFAO – Party Rock
Silversun Pickups - Swoon
